For protection against bad weather, stretched across the wagon was a tough canvas cover.  These wagons were  16.5 feet in length and 4.5 feet in width. The frame and suspension were made of wood, while the wheels were clad with iron tyres for greater durability. While horses were also used, oxen held up better under heat and severe conditions.  We reproduced this from an antique mold and it was hand cast in solid, jeweler's pewter. This pin is 2 inches wide!
